BJP legislator, others arrested in Sangareddy 187 BJP workers taken into custody in Warangal HYDERABAD: Police resorted to lathicharge on the Bharatiya Janata Party and Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) activists in Warangal, Sangareddy and Nizamabad, when they tried to hoist the national flag for the 60th anniversary celebrations of Hyderabad Liberation Day on Wednesday. A report from Sangareddy said, the police chased ABVP activists when they tried to hoist the national flag at the Collectorate. Earlier, they had hoisted the tri-colour at Zilla Parishad and the offices of the District Educational Officer and District Medical and Health Officer. Eight students were hurt in the cane charge. Police arrested former BJP MLA Satyanarayana and other workers, when they tried to unfurl the tri-colour at the Parade grounds. Mild tensionIn Warangal, mild tension prevailed at hundreds of BJP workers tried to enter the District Police Office to hoist the national flag. Police took 187 members into the custody and lodged them at Hanamkonda police station. The BJP workers took out a rally from the Thousand Pillars Temple to police parade grounds. When they tried to gate crash into the DPO, the police used mild force. According to a report from Adilabad, ABVP cadres managed to unfurl the national flag atop the Collectorate building. They evaded policemen on bandobast duty and reached the Collectorate. They were later arrested. Road cordoned offIn Nizamabad, police foiled the attempt by BJP workers to hoist national flag at Police Parade Ground. The road leading to the Parade Grounds was barricaded and cordoned off with a large posse of policemen until the agitators were arrested and moved to different police stations in vans.
