NEW DELHI: To promote public awareness about breast cancer prevention and its early detection, a special motor car rally was flagged off from the Capital on Wednesday. Organised by the Forum for Breast Protection, a non-government organisation involved in spreading public awareness about breast cancer prevention and its early detection, the Indian Motor Car Rally will pass through different parts of Rajasthan before concluding at a gala ceremony in Jaipur this Sunday. Described as an ideal mix of professional rally drivers alongside volunteers who have come forward to support the noble cause, the rally has been conceptualised to organise extensive awareness programmes on breast cancer prevention and its early detection at major stopovers like Bikaner, Jaisalmer, Jodhpur and Jaipur. Twenty-one cars are participating in the rally. Educational filmA 13-minute educational film on breast self-examination techniques demonstrated by breast cancer survivors will be screened at each awareness meet. The film features narration by television actors Sakshi Tanwar, Shweta Keswani and Apara Mehta. Princess Rajyashree Kumari of Bikaner, Maharani Hemlata Rajye of Jodhpur, Maharaja Bhawani Singh of Jaipur and politician Rama Pilot have extended their support to the cause. They will be the chief guests at educational programmes in Bikaner, Jaisalmer, Jodhpur and Jaipur. Renowned oncologists and doctors will also be present at the venues to answer any queries. “Ours is but one such humble attempt but the need and necessity of wider efforts is dire, given the ground realities of the high incidences of breast cancer,” says Forum for Breast Protection chairperson Col. C. S. Pant. The Forum was registered in 2001 as an NGO with focus on caring for patients suffering from cancer of the breast. It has been fully engaged in widening general awareness about breast cancer through seminars, events and camps where women are educated about the importance of breast cancer protection. The campaigns to encourage early detection and prevention of the disease have in fact led to the production of the breast self-examination film.
