NEW DELHI: Isha Lakhani, the Bhambri sisters, Ankita and Sanaa, apart from Parija Maloo had a winning start in the $25,000 ITF women’s tennis tournament at Karshi, Uzbekistan. Only lucky-loser Prerna Mythri lost her first round among Indians, to a higher-ranked Nicole Clerico of Italy. In the doubles, however, second seed Isha in partnership with Pemra Ozgen of Turkey suffered a first round loss to Ima Bohush of Belarus and Lesya Tsurenko of Ukraine. The results (featuring Indians): Singles (first round): Isha Lakhani bt Diana Narzikulova (Uzb) 6-1, 6-2; Ankita Bhambri bt Ima Bohush (Blr) 6-3, 7-5; Sanaa Bhambri bt Sabina Sharipova (Uzb) 6-0, 6-3; Nicole Clerico (Ita) bt Prerna Mythri 6-4, 6-3; Parija Maloo bt S. Hatamova (Uzb) 6-4, 2-6, 6-4.
