Gowda cruises into quarterfinals

BANGALORE: Local lad Vinod Gowda was in sparkling form as he swept into the quarterfinals with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Malaysian eighth seed J. Hanifah Rahizam in the ATF under-14 ranking junior tennis championship at the Bowring Institute courts here on Tuesday.

Gowda took just under an hour, to complete his demolition act with well-timed forehand winners and consistent groundstrokes.

Wild card A.K. Parthasarathy, meanwhile, sprang a surprise defeating sixth-seeded Yash Deshpande 6-3, 7-6(4).

Top-seeded Muhammed Agil of Malaysia continued his relentless charge, sealing another quick win, this time over Vivek Wagmare 6-0, 6-1.
