Highway robbery: woman from Madurai nabbed

ARUPPUKOTTAI: A woman who lured a lorry driver on the Tuticorin-Madurai highway only to get him robbed by a gang was caught by a fellow lorry driver on Tuesday morning.
The police said that P. Arunachalam followed two women into an isolated place when they intercepted his vehicle at around 4 a.m. The lorry was proceeding towards Madurai from Tuticorin.
Suddenly, three men pounced on him and asked him to part with the cash. When the driver told them that the money was with the cleaner, sitting in the lorry, the gang tied him. Later, they threatened the cleaner, M. Velu (50), and snatched Rs. 5,000.
Even as they tried to flee from the spot, the victims raised an alarm and the crew of another lorry passing through the spot came to their rescue. They chased the culprits but succeeded in nabbing a 30-year-old woman and handed her over to the Aruppukottai Town police.
The woman was identified as a resident of Tirupparankundram in Madurai. The police are on the lookout for the other gang members, including her husband.
Cash stolen from IMFL retail outlet
Unidentified men broke into a IMFL retail outlet and decamped with Rs. 1.02 lakh kept in a safe in Rajapalayam on Sunday night.
The police said that the supervisor, P. Tirumaran, found the door of the shop in North Malaiyadipatti broke open when he came for duty on Monday morning. The safe was also damaged and money looted. The Rajapalayam (North) police are investigating.
