Indian judokas strike it rich
NEW DELHI: Indian judokas have won 12 medals, including 11 gold, at the South Asian judo championship held in Kathmandu, Nepal, from September 11 to 14.
In the men’s section, all the six Indians — Veerbhan (55 kg), Veer Bahadur Thapa (60 kg), Manjeet Kumar (66 kg), Kuldeep Kumar (73 kg), Kh. Yamia Singh (81 kg) and Rajinder Singh (90 kg) — won gold medals, according to a Judo Federation of India statement here on Monday.
Five of the six women judokas — O. Bidyalaxmi Devi (44 kg), Y. Sangita Devi (48 kg), Rohini B. Patil (52 kg), Th. Kalpana Devi (57 kg) and Garima Chaudhary (63 kg) — bagged the yellow metal while H. Sunibala Devi (70 kg) got a silver.
