‘Police officer being victimised’

Special Correspondent

BANGALORE: Questioning the secular credentials of the Bharatiya Janata Party Government, former Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy on Monday alleged that an efficient police officer had been punished by not giving him any posting for arresting the culprits behind the desecration of a place of worship in J.C. Nagar in Bangalore.

“Assistant Commissioner of Police Admimani was immediately transferred and is yet to be given any posting for arresting the culprits who tried to create communal problems,” Mr. Kumaraswamy told presspersons here.

He alleged that Home Minister V.S. Acharya had issued oral instructions to the police officer to release the culprits arrested in connection with J.C. Nagar incident.

The Home Minister had managed to secure the release of the culprits, Mr. Kumaraswamy alleged and wondered if Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa was not aware of this. Meanwhile, former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda alleged that the cosmopolitan character of Karnataka was sought to be undermined by the advocates of Hindutva. The State, which had attracted the attention of the world for its supremacy in IT and the professionalism of its people in all sectors, was today hogging international headlines for the violence against minorities, he said.

After the implementation of the Gujarat model, the day was not far when the ruling BJP would take a cue from its parochial friends in Maharashtra and whip up a campaign against non-Kannadigas, who have made the State their home and were contributing to its growth, Mr. Kumaraswamy remarked.

“We will not allow Karnataka to become a Gujarat. The State had a long tradition of communal harmony and the people will not allow the Sangh Parivar to distort either its history or tradition,” he said.
