Six persons arrested on charge of robbery

BANGALORE: A gang that specialised in robbing people after offering them rides at night-time finally landed in the police net on Sunday.

Sleuths of K.R. Puram Police Station nabbed six men on robbery charges and recovered from their possession two Toyota Qualis vehicles, eight mobile phones, gold ring and chains, ATM cards, Rs. 21,130 in cash, machetes and other weapons.

The accused are Bujju alias Mohammad Syed Azaruddin Pasha (20), a resident of Shivaraj Road near Devarajeevanahalli; Shafi alias Mohammad Shafi (22), Madeen Mallik Babu (19), Mohammad Ibrahim Sardar (21), Syed Waseem (20) and Syed Jameel alias Saleem Amir Khan (22), all residents of Vinoba Nagar near K.G. Halli.

The accused had hired three Toyota Qualis vehicles to rob young professionals, especially those working in IT, BT and BPO sectors. In the past few weeks, they had picked up several persons on pretext of giving them drop from Tin Factory, Kalyan Nagar, Banaswadi, City Corporation and Hennur Bande bus stop, and had robbed them of their valuables.

“After taking victims into the vehicles, they would threaten them with swords and machetes and take away their cash, jewellery, ATM cards, electronic gadgets and other valuables. After robbing them, they would push their victims out of the vehicles,” the police said.

Tension on S.P. Road

Tension prevailed in the surrounding areas of S.P. Road following two group clashes on Sunday night.

Ranga, (28) was stabbed by two persons over a trivial matter and was admitted to the Victoria Hospital in a critical condition. Silver Jubilee Park police are searching for the accused, Daya and Shashi.

In another incident, R.K. Swamy and his brother were assaulted by a gang of 10 persons on S.P.

Road following which angry supporters of Ranga and R.K. Swamy gathered on S.P. Road to look for the attackers. Additional police forces were sent to disperse the irate crowds.

Hijacker arrested

The Jeevanbimanagar police arrested an interstate lorry hijacker, M. Raghu Maribasappa (28), a resident of Budhigere village, recovered three vehicles worth Rs. 40 lakh. The vehicles belonged to Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh.

“The accused is an expert in stealing goods vehicles and selling them after changing number plates,” police said.

Traffic violations

The Western Division traffic police booked 25,883 cases last week in their special drives near important signals and junctions, collecting a fine of Rs. 37.78 lakh.

Spirit seized

The officials of Excise Enforcement Police intercepted an oil tanker near the Jnanabharati on Sunday night and seized 7,000 litres of spirit that was being illegally transported to the city from Maharashtra. Munikrishna (25) and Babu (24), both from Bangalore, were arrested.
