Lok Adalats to resolve cases mooted

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: The Karnataka High Court on Monday orally suggested to the State Government, the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) and other parties that thousands of cases pertaining to disciplinary action against employees of state transport undertakings could be resolved once and for all and amicably if they are referred to the Lok Adalats.

A Division Bench comprising Chief Justice P.D. Dinakaran and Justice Mohan Shantanagouder made the suggestion when it was dealing with a case relating to the dismissal of a KSRTC employee more than 20 years ago.

The Bench noted that the matter could have been settled years ago and said even now such cases could be amicably settled if a high-level panel of officials were made part of the Lok Adalat.

It said it would be in the interest of all if trade unions were told of the plan to place such matters before the Lok Adalat.
