Three in a row for PSG Tech

Coimbatore: Host PSG College of Technology, for the third successive year, clinched the ball badminton title for women in the Anna University Zone-7 inter-collegiate tournaments at the PSG Tech grounds recently.

The host thrashed Sri Ramakrishna Engineering College 29-9, 29-2 for the title. Bannari Amman Institute of Technology (Sathyamangalam) defeated Dr. Mahalingam College of Engineering and Technology for the third place.

CIT prevails

Coimbatore Institute of Technology (CIT), riding Guruprasad (30 points) and Ganesh Ram’s (14) brilliance, stunned defending champion PSG Tech 62-47 for the basketball title.

In the semifinals, CIT notched up a thrilling 46-44 win over Tamil Nadu College of Engineering, while PSG outplayed Kongu Engineering College (Perundurai) 42-13.

The results: Ball badminton: Final: PSG Tech bt Sri Ramakrishna EC 29-9, 29-2. Semifinals: PSG Tech bt Bannari Amman IT 29-14, 29-27; Sri Ramakrishna EC bt Dr. Mahalingam College ET (Pollachi) 29-24, 29-11.

Basketball: Final: CIT 62 (Guruprasad 30, Ganesh Ram 14) bt PSG Tech 47 (Saravanan 10, Arun Prakash 15). Third place: Kongu EC (Perundurai) 42 (Mariappan 20) bt Tamil Nadu CE 15 (Sajith 10). Semifinals: PSG Tech 42 (Saravanan 12, Arun Prakash 10) bt Kongu EC 13, CIT 46 (Guruprasad 23) bt Tamil Nadu CE 44 (Sajith 17, Nicolas 17).

Sudhakar scalps six

V. Sudhakar picked six for 19 and S. Mayurnath hit an unbeaten 67 in Arumugam XI Patriots Cricket Club’s eight-wicket win over Tirupur Cricket Club in the Canara Bank-CDCA second division league at the Forest College grounds on Sunday.

The scores: Second division: Wings CC 193 in 47.1 overs (Sathish 42) lost to Best VP XI 195 for eight in 46.3 overs (Dinesh 43, Senthil 45), Tirupur CC 141 in 33.3 overs (V. Sudhakar six for 19) lost to Arumugam XI Patriots CC 142 for two in 24.4 overs (S. Mayurnath 67 not out), Stanes MC 162 in 47.3 overs (Manoj Kumar 40) lost to Friends RC 166 for six in 30.3 overs (Aswath 50).

Chess tournament

The Irugur Chess Club (ICC), affiliated to the Coimbatore District Chess Association (CDCA), will conduct its first district level junior and open chess tournament at the Selva Vinayagar Kalyanamandapam on October 4 and 5.
