Convene legislature session, demands Ugrappa

Key issues need immediate discussion: Congress leader

Ugrappa wants Yeddyurappa to quit

Prakash to head KPCC fact-finding team

Bangalore: Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council V.S. Ugrappa has sought the immediate convening of the legislature session to discuss several issues confronting the people, including the communal clashes and attacks on prayer halls.

He told presspersons here on Monday that Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa should own moral responsibility for the attacks on minorities and resign.

“The Government is being guided by Sangh Parivar activists. It is a blatant case of State sponsored terrorism. All other issues such as drought and floods, among others, have been forgotten,” he said.

Tour

Mr. Ugrappa, who toured Tiptur in Tumkur district which witnessed communal clashes, alleged that Sangh Parivar activists had earlier attacked churches in Davangere.

The Opposition leader said that three churches in Davangere had been “sealed” by the police and the district authorities on charges of building law violations.

The fact was that owners of these buildings had not even been served a notice by the authorities concerned.

Cases

“Ironically, the local police had registered cases against an 85-year-old woman and a 15-year-old girl who had no connection with the violence,” he said.

“It is obvious that the Sangh Parivar activists and the police were hand in glove in creating a fear psychosis among the common people with an eye on the coming elections, which are crucial for the survival of the BJP Government in the State.”

In another development, the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee constituted a high level fact-finding committee headed by former Deputy Prime Minister, M.P. Prakash to ascertain the facts relating to the attack on prayer halls.

The other members of the committee include the former Ministers, D.B. Chandre Gowda, C.R. Sageer Ahmed and K.J. George.

They will tour Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts on Wednesday and Thursday and submit a report to KPCC president M. Mallikarjun Kharge.
