What they say

S. Kabilan

S. Kabilan, Tamil Nadu Electricity Regulatory Commission Chairman:

The TNEB should strengthen its financial base. It may start its own power generation units to offset the huge expense incurred in purchasing power from external sources. Simultaneously the Board should go for competitive bidding to add capacity generation through the private sector.

To tide over the present power crisis, more wind generation should be encouraged along with steps to exploit solar energy for a long term strategy. Though the tapping of solar energy, where potential is high, is expensive now, improved technology and mass production could bring down the cost.
