Chennai: The Andhra Social and Cultural Association will conduct the Alliance Group-ASCA all-India invitation snooker tournament from September 15 to 21. The tournament, with a winner’s purse of Rs.130,000, will feature some of India’s finest snooker talent. “Between all of us, we have 21 World titles (billiards and snooker),” said five-time World professional billiards champion Geet Sethi, speaking at a press conference, on Friday. Apart from Sethi, the other marquee names at the event include current IBSF World billiards champion Pankaj Advani, Ashok Shandilya, Rupesh Shah, Alok Kumar and Devendra Joshi. The tournament begins with a best of five frame round-robin league stage, with eight groups of four players each. The top two in each group will progress to the knock-out stage. The pre-quarterfinals and quarterfinals will be played on the best of seven frames, the semifinals on best of nine, and the final on September 21 on best of 11 frames. IOB, ONGC scoreIOB and ONGC (Dehradun) recorded victories over SDAT (Chennai) and Southern Railway respectively on the second day of the Aircel all-India volleyball tournament at Karaikal on Thursday.
