CHENNAI: The Pattali Makkal Katchi will impose total prohibition in the event of capturing power, S. Ramadoss, founder, said on Friday.
Expressing the hope that his party would come to power, Dr. Ramadoss told a meeting organised by the party at M.K.B.Nagar in Vyasarpadi here that his party had been organising several meetings to highlight the problem of drinking.
Women, who had turned up in large numbers, narrated their experiences of how the problem had caused havoc to their families.
So long as liquor was available freely, the proposed scheme of supplying rice at Re.1 a kg would not create any positive impact.
Referring to reports of the Karnataka Government’s plan of introducing total prohibition, the PMK founder wanted to know why Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi had not initiated any such move.
He said his party had been imparting training programmes for its members. There would not be any place for those who put up hoardings and had habits such as drinking.
Claiming that his party was functioning as a constructive Opposition party for the seven-and a-half years, Dr. Ramadoss said his party had produced several documents including alternative budgets and development programmes for agriculture, industry and youth.
Dr. Ramadoss also noted that his party had come out with a document on development of Chennai metropolitan city.
He added that his party would hold eight more meetings to highlight differences in the policies of the PMK and the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam. A.K. Murthy, Member of Parliament, also took part.
