Load shedding affects production in industrial units, says chamber

Staff Reporter

RAJAPALAYAM: Load shedding for five hours every day due to unprecedented power shortage faced in the State has put the people to untold hardships, the Rajapalayam Chamber of Commerce and Industry has said.

In a statement, its secretary, S.N. Rama Raju said that power cut for longer duration has affected production in industries. Small scale industries have faced huge loss as they could not fulfil their orders.

All activities dependent on power supply has been curtailed and emergency operations in hospitals too were hindered.

Stating that though the Chief Minister, M. Karunanidhi’s announcement to sell rice at Re 1 a kg through public distribution system deserved appreciation, Mr. Raju said that the price of rice in open market had shot up as rice production in rice mills has come down due to power cuts.

The association has urged the Government to act on a war-footing to relax load shedding at the earliest.
