VIJAYAWADA: Alakananda Prachuranalu, the publications wing of city-based Ashok Book Centre, has won the second prize of the ‘Award for Excellence in Book Production-2008’ by the Federation of Indian Publishers for its publication ‘Naaku Undi Oka Kala’, a Telugu translation of ‘I Too Had a Dream’ authored by Dr. Verghese Kurien of Amul Dairy fame.

Alakananda proprietor D. Ashok Kumar said on Friday that the award was given in the paperback section in regional languages, and it was a selection from 1,400 entries received from all over the country.

As many as 265 awards, including this one, were given in various categories by Secretary to the department of school education & literacy of the Union Government Arun Kumar Rath at Delhi Book Fair in Pragati Maidan in New Delhi on September 6.

Mr. Ashok Kumar said Alakananda, the youngest of Telugu publishers, received an award second year in succession, as it received a ‘certificate of merit’ for its book ‘Tatvavettalu’ by Gopichand.

It published 48 books, including biographies of A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, Sonia Gandhi, Yellapragada Subbarow, Kiran Bedi, Madhu Dandavate, Sushilkumar Shinde and others, in the last four years.
