Additional medical officers posted Result of culture test for three patients awaited
SIVAKASI: A 45-year-old woman, K. Ramayee, of Pudukottai village near here, died following acute diarrhoea on Friday.
The woman was admitted to the M. Pudupatti primary health centre on Thursday night.
The Deputy Director (Sivakasi), S. Balasubramanian, said that abrupt loss of body fluid led to her death despite medical attention.
Diarrhoea break out in the village was first reported on Sunday and since then over 50 persons have been affected. Around 20 persons from the village have been admitted to the M. Pudupatti PHC and the Virudhunagar Government hospital.
“Additional medical officers have been posted in the village for immediate medical attention. An ambulance has been deployed there to rush patients to the hospital in case of emergency. We are awaiting result of culture test for three patients from the Government Rajaji hospital in Madurai,” Dr. Balasubramanian said.
Contamination of drinking water due to mixing of sewerage has caused the epidemic break out. The leakage in the drinking water pipeline had been arrested, he added.
