A meet where there may be windfalls

TAMBARAM: ‘Aarush 2008,’ a three-day national level technical meet commenced at SRM University in Kattankulathur on Thursday.
More than 3,500 students from about 350 colleges and universities in 26 States are taking part in the event being held for the second year.
Cash awards
Cash awards worth Rs.25 lakh are up for grabs at the meet that will have 40 events touching upon the different areas of studies pursued by the students.
On the inaugural day, action was centred on the main hall of Mechanical Block, where students who had designed various models of robots competed with one another.
Students of the host institution said that there were seven categories in robotics events alone with total prize money of Rs.1.5 lakh.
Not only mechanical engineers, it attracted the attention of students from different backgrounds.
Sponsorships
P.Sathyanarayanan, Vice-Chancellor, told reporters that they had received sponsorships for about Rs.15 lakh, the university would be spending Rs.8 lakh on the event, he added.
