300% pay hike for President

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: The President, the Vice-President and Governors will get a 300 per cent pay hike.

A meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, on Thursday approved the proposal to increase their monthly emoluments.

The emoluments for the President have been raised from Rs. 50,000 to 1.50 lakh, for the Vice-President from Rs. 40,000 to Rs. 1.25 lakh and for the Governors from Rs. 36,000 to 1.10 lakh.

Official sources said the hike would be effective from January 2006, the date from which the Sixth Pay Commission recommendations would be implemented.

The CCEA also rationalised post-retirement benefits to the former Presidents, the former Vice-Presidents and their spouses, an official spokesperson said.
