Rahul, Mulayam’s son meet

Atiq Khan

LUCKNOW: Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi and Samajwadi Party MP and the former Chief Minister Mulayam Singh’s son Akhilesh Yadav met in Deoria in Uttar Pradesh on Thursday. The meeting, said to be the first between the two, lasted 10 minutes.

Significant

It assumes significance in the background of the ongoing seat-sharing talks between the parties for next year’s Lok Sabha elections.

Mr. Gandhi figured prominently in the first two rounds held on September 2 and 8.

The talks have entered a decisive stage with the final round proposed to be held after September 15. Mr. Yadav is reported to have told Mr. Gandhi that he had come to raise the issue of dues to sugarcane growers.
