CHENNAI: Investing in India is the next logical step for Taiwanese companies, Representative of the Tapei Economic and Cultural Centre in New Delhi Wen-Chyi Ong said here on Thursday. Opening the second edition of the Tapei international electronics trade show, Taitronics India (2008) at Chennai Trade Centre in Nandambakkam, he said: “The current Taiwanese investment in India is just a fraction of investment in China, while there are many opportunities in India.” India is becoming the powerhouse of this region in the world, he added. The three-day business to business trade show being organised by the Taipei World Trade Centre Company Ltd (TWTC) and the Taiwan Electrical and Electronic Manufacturers Association (TEEMA) in partnership with the Tamil Nadu and the Confederation of Indian Industry, features eighty exhibitors, sixty of which are from Taiwan, demonstrating the newest electronic products in various areas, such as wireless communication, consumer electronics, auto parts and accessories. “Chennai has much economic potential, especially in the ICT sector,” Executive Director of the TWTC’s Exhibition Department, Moses M.S. Yen, said, explaining why Chennai was chosen as the location for Taitronics India. “Most of the Taiwanese companies at this show already have a base in Chennai,” he added. In a few years we will see three times as many companies at this show,” Mr. Ong said.
