SBMJC claims double

BANGALORE: Sri Bhagwan Mahaveer Jain College (SBMJC) claimed a double in the 44th Bangalore University inter-collegiate athletics championship which concluded at the Sree Kanteerava stadium here on Thursday.

Jayaprakash C. Shetty of SBMJC and Shweta Sagar of Al- Ameen College were declared best athletes in the men’s and women’s sections respectively.

The results (winners only): 100m: G.M. Bopanna (SBMJC) 10.6s; 400m hurdles: Jayaprakash C. Shetty (SBMJC) 59.8s; 20-km walk: Dinesh Kumar (SBMJC) 1h 51m 25.0s; Pole vault: S. Nandish (Al Ameen) 2.50m; Decathlon: S. Nandish (Al Ameen) 5,639 points; 4x100m relay: SBMJC 43.5s; Half marathon: D. Raghu (Al Ameen) 1h 17m 18.1s.

Women: 100m: R. Mahalakshmi (Vidyavahini) 13.3s; 400m hurdles: Shweta Sagar (Al Ameen) 1:45.5s; High jump: Prarthana Nanaiah (SBMJC) 1.62m; Triple jump: Shweta Sagar (Al Ameen) 11.26m; Discus: M.N. Shreeraksha (MES) 22.32m; Heptathlon: B.B. Shubha (Seshadripuram) 3,639 points; 4x100m relay: SBMJC 58.2s.

Individual champions: Men: Jayaprakash C. Shetty (SBMJC); Women: Shweta Sagar (Al Ameen).

Team championships: Men: SBM Jain College; Women: SBM Jain College.

Easy win

South Western Railway notched up an easy 25-23, 25-15,25-19 victory over ITI Sports Club to maintain its top slot on the league table in the State ‘A’ division volleyball championship at Sree Kanteerava Stadium courts here on Thursday.

Imtiaz, Somu and Dev played well for the winner while, Sampath and Arunraj impressed for ITI especially in the closely contested first game.

In the other matches, KSP beat ASC 25-18, 26-24, 25-18 and MEG defeated BEL SC 25-13, 25-21, 25-19. In the women’s section, BMS College beat Mandya District 25-23, 25-15, 25-19.

Ashwath triumphs

Skanda R. Ashwath of Yuvaraja’s College (Mysore) with 74 points (nine golds and one silver) and Yashika Mohan of Mahajana FGC with 60 points (seven golds) won the individual championship title in the men’s and women’s section respectively in the Mysore University inter-collegiate swimming championship at the University swimming pool, Mysore, on Thursday.

Yuvaraja’s College won the overall team championship with 113 points.

Well-earned victory

Impressive performances from Supradeep (24) and Ravichandra (22), helped BEML (Mysore) register a well earned 99-83 win over NITTE, Udipi, in the men’s section of the State-level invitation basketball tournament at Msyreo on Thursday.

The results (pre-quarterfinals): Men: BEML (Mysore) 99 (Supradeep 24, Ravichandra 22) bt NITTE, Udipi 83 ( Nithin Shetty 38, Kirthan Shetty 28) (ht 45-35).

First round: Jayanagar SC Bangalore 61 (Sandeep 15, Milan 12) bt Raising Star Mysore 17 ( Alex 6, Vikas 4); BSNL Bangalore 58 (Yasin 24, Naresh 14) bt Ambedkar Bangalore 50 (Karan Sood 21; Vivekananda Mandya 89 (Aravind 35, Anil 18) bt Nationals Mysore 74 (Naveen 21, Nandan 13); NITTE Udipi 62 (Nithin 27) bt Rangers Mysore 33 (Rakesh 12).

Rajesh scalps five

A five-wicket haul by medium-pacer Rajesh (five for 14), helped Post Graduate Sports Council, Manasagangothri, register a facile ten-wicket win over JSS Institute of Education and enter the second round in the Mysore University inter-collegiate cricket tournament played at Maharaja’s college grounds, Mysore, on Thursday.

The scores: JSS Institute of Education 57 in 18 overs (Rajesh five for 14) lost to PGSC Mysore 58 for no loss in 5.4 overs.

NIE Mysore 161 (Srinidhi 40) bt SVC FGC 59 in 15.2 overs.

SBRR Mahajana PU College 213 for five in 25 overs (Abdul Majeed 103, Varun 51) bt VVLC 69 in 16.1 overs (Rohit V Tiwari four for 30).

TTL College of Business Management 227 for seven in 30 overs (Ramesh 52, Punith 46 not out, Chamaraj 40) bt Sarada Vilas PU College 90 in 24.3 overs (Ramesh five for 15).

D. Bhanumiah’s College 86 in 23.3 overs lost to VV Engineering College 87 for seven in 21.5 overs.
