Website soon for village panchayats in Krishnagiri

seven formats

It will enable administration to monitor schemes continuously

CHENNAI: The Krishnagiri district administration is set to roll out a comprehensive website for all 337 village panchayats in the district in the next two weeks.

The website ( www.krishnagiripanchayats.in) contains details of each village panchayat in seven formats—photos of five major landmarks, maps, vital statistics, administrative set-up, development indicators, child and women-related indicators and development works in progress.

“It is a first-of-its-kind attempt made by a district administration in the State. It is almost ready and being fine-tuned. Besides providing a large amount of data, this website will enable the district administration to monitor the schemes continuously,” Santhosh Babu, Managing Director, Electronics Corporation of Tamil Nadu (ELCOT), told The Hindu on Thursday.

Dr. Babu, who was till recently the Krishnagiri Collector, said it took nearly two months for him to cull out the information, while some were readily available with the UNICEF. He was also instrumental in rolling out the Krishnagiri District Website that had a web- based tracking and monitoring system for out-of-school children, public grievance redress, ‘uzhavar santhais,’ Varumun Kappom and a e-district project.

“This new website will enable people from these village panchayats to know the status of their panchayat in terms of development. The data will be updated every month. Later it will be made available in Tamil. We expect 221 village panchayats to be connected by broadband by December,” Dr. Babu said.

On Thursday, Dr. Babu met Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi and handed over a compilation setting forth the e-governance initiative he had taken during his tenure.
