Stolen property worth Rs. 12.06 lakh recovered

Three held in different cases

HYDERABAD: Police on Wednesday recovered gold ornaments worth Rs. 9 lakh, Rs. 3.06 lakh cash and ganja weighing 800 grams in different cases after arresting three persons.

The jewellery was recovered from Bidyuth Das, a goldsmith who allegedly stole it from the shop of gold merchant Sukhdev Chakravarthy he was working with at Adikmet on September 2.

Hailing from West Bengal, the accused had been working in the shop for the past three years.

“Of late, he began aiming to be become a shop owner and plotted to steal the jewellery to become one overnight,” the Commissioner’s Task Force DCP V.B. Kamalasan Reddy told reporters.

After trying in vain to sell the jewellery in his hometown, he went to Nagpur. His plans failed there too.

He returned to the city on Wednesday to sell the jewellery in Secunderabad Pot Market but was caught by the Task Force (Central) team.

In another case, the Task Force (West) officials caught Mohd. Yousuf and recovered Rs. 3.06 lakh out of the Rs. 3.80 lakh he had stolen from a city bus passenger on August 14. He was earlier arrested several times on pocket picking charge.

The third accused G. Raj Kumar, 29, was arrested after finding ganja in the car he was driving during routine vehicle checking at Punjagutta. Kumar admitted to police that he used to procure ganja from some persons in Mangalhat.
