Sahil Muni HYDERABAD: Sanmathi Muni (Sahil) has been fasting for the past 47 days. He has survived so far only on warm water. Sahil Muni, heading the Sri Vardhaman Sthanakvasi Jain Shravak Sangh, Secunderabad, says he is fasting for world peace. He says that the fast is a way of celebrating the 301st birthday of Sri Jayamalji, one of the foremost religious head of Jains. He is all set to fast till September 14, the birthday of Jayamalji, bringing the total days of his fast to 51 days. September 14 is an auspicious day for the over 1 lakh Jains of the city. The Jain Sangh is organising ‘Jayamal Janam Jayathi’ on Sunday at Classic Gardens, Secunderabad. Informing the press regarding the event, Hastimalji Munodh, another religious head, also said that he would like to invite people from other religions to take part in the celebrations. “The fast taken up by Sahilji will bring peace to our State,” he further added. Sahil Muni said that they were expecting over 5,000 Jains for the celebrations from neighbouring States. The Sangh is also organising lecture sessions for women and youth on September 12 and 13 respectively, apart from an essay writing competition. A talk on ‘The decreasing patience and increasing impunity amongst today’s women’ will be delivered by Kavitha Jain on September 12 at the Sangh premises in Secunderabad, while a talk on ‘Jain way of living - an art’ will be delivered for youngsters next day at Classic Gardens.
