Tvm takes lead

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Half-centuries by Jithin and Akhil Viswanath enabled Thiruvananthapuram to take the first innings lead against Kollam at the end of the first day’s play in the south zone under-19 inter-district cricket tournament here on Wednesday.

Electing to bat, Kollam was bowled out for 131 with Sajan Salim (three for 16) and Likhil Francis (three for 26) doing the damage. Thiruvananthapuram had taken a 23-run lead when the stumps were drawn.

Overnight rain delayed the start of the Kottayam-Alappuzha match. At stumps, Kottayam was 176 for five. Balu Baiju’s picked up four for 25 with an incisive spell for Alappuzha.

The scores:

Kollam 131 in 44.3 overs (Sajan Salim three for 16, Likhil Francis three for 26) v Thiruvananthapuram 154 for six in 33 overs (Jithin 61 not out, Akhil Viswanath 61, Sreeraj three for 48).

Kottayam 176 for five in 33 overs (Jaison George 48, Kiran 40, Balu Baiju four for 25) v Alappuzha.
