HP-Artillery combine wins

HYDERABAD: The Hampshire Plaza-Artillery Combined team won the AP Tourism Trophy defeating AP Tourism by 7 goals to 5-and-a-half goals, in an exciting final at the Bison Polo Grounds here on Tuesday.

For the winner Manupal Godara, a plus-4 handicap player, scored five goals. Manupal struck once in the first chukker, twice in the second and twice again in the fourth.

J.S. Shekhawat of Artillery Centre (Nasik) also made a mark with his exceptional skills. Shekhawat chipped in with two goals – one apiece in the second and third chukkers.

For AP Tourism which began with an advantage of half a goal, Dhruvpal Godara scored four goals – twice each in the first and fourth chukkers. Khadar Siddique was the other scorer.

Thursday is a rest day.

Rahul in semifinals

K. Rahul Banerjee defeated Shaikh Rifaat 6-3 in the boys’ under-eight quarterfinal of the YMCA Independence Day mini and sub-junior tennis tournament.

KV Begumpet wins title

Kendriya Vidyalaya (Begumpet) defeated Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan Public School (Jubilee Hills) 25-19, 25-15 in the girls’ volleyball final of the seventh CBSE inter-school sports meet here.

Srinivas to lead

L. Srinivas Reddy will lead the Hyderabad men’s team in the 56th senior National kabaddi championship to be held in Puducherry from September 12.
