JAIPUR: The Jaipur Vidyut Vitaran Nigam has allotted the project work of replacing over 30 lakh incandescent lamps of domestic consumers with the compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs) to three private companies. The move is expected to reduce electricity consumption by 30.4 crore units every year. Jaipur Discom Chairman and Managing Director R.G. Gupta said here on Wednesday that the three companies were selected through tenders for entering into an agreement under the Bachat Lamp Yojana of the Union Government’s Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE). These companies will replace incandescent lamps with CFLs at a cost of Rs.15 per piece. The massive replacement exercise will reduce the peak demand in the power sector in the State by 166 MW, which in turn would reduce the expenditure incurred on power generation by Rs.830 crore. While Green Point Energy, Jaipur, has been assigned the task in Jhalawar, Tonk, Baran, Bundi, Kota and Sawai Madhopur districts, Bayan Environmental Innovations, Hyderabad, will carry out the replacement work in Jaipur district. Energy and Secure Meters, Udaipur, has been asked to cover Alwar, Bharatpur, Dholpur, Dausa and Karauli districts. Mr. Gupta said the BEE would monitor the project’s implementation. The project will later be extended to all districts in Rajasthan. The Jaipur Discom chief pointed out that the discom would not incur any expenses on the project. The selected companies will make all the investments.
