Salaries of staffs in cooperative colleges hiked DA, HRA fixed at government rates
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Department of Cooperation will launch a lottery, ‘Sahakarana Navaratnam,’ to garner funds for new projects proposed in the cooperative sector, Minister for Cooperation G. Sudhakaran has said. Mr. Sudhakaran told reporters here on Wednesday that the target was to sell tickets for Rs.50 crore. The cost of a ticket was Rs.50. The first prize would be Rs.2 crore and Rs.5 lakh would be given to 10 persons as second prize. Eight prizes totalling Rs.6.16 crore would be given to 2,65,520 persons. About 50 per cent of the returns through ticket sales would be distributed as prize money. Monitoring panelA State-level monitoring committee would be formed for conducting the lottery. The proposal was to launch ticket sales in the third week of September and conduct the draw on November 24. Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan would inaugurate the lottery. The proceeds would be utilised for reviving the cooperative societies for women, Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes and the Sahitya Pravarthaka Cooperative Society, strengthening the market intervention efforts and taking up welfare schemes for those who had made significant contributions towards the growth and development of the cooperative sector. Salary revisionThe salary of teaching and non-teaching staff of the Kochi Medical College, six engineering colleges and nursing school under the Cooperative Academy for Professional Education (CAPE) had been revised. As many as 1,000 employees would be benefited by the revision. The salaries of professors working on contract at the medical college varied from Rs.30,000 and Rs.35,000. The new scale had been fixed between Rs.35,000 and Rs.40,000. The associate professors who had been drawing Rs.22,500 would get Rs.30,000. The salary of assistant professors who had been drawing between Rs.17,000 and Rs.20,000 had been revised to Rs.23,000 and Rs.26,000 respectively. MBBS tutors who had been getting Rs.10,000 would get Rs.17,000 and Rs.18,000. The salary of non-medical tutors had been raised from Rs.10,000 to Rs.13,000. Dearness allowance (DA) and house rent allowance (HRA) had been fixed at government rates. Para-medical and non-teaching staff would get a hike ranging between Rs.1,000 and Rs.3,353. The principals working on contract in engineering colleges would get a hike of Rs.13,000 and lecturers, Rs.2,000. Regular professors would get a hike of Rs.6,780 and lecturers, Rs.4,520. The anomalies in the pay scales of other employees would be rectified and fixed at government rates. Business schoolAdmissions to the new engineering college at Punnapra in Alappuzha had been completed. Other than Computer Science, Information Technology, Electrical and Electronics, Electronics and Communication, it had been decided to start Civil Engineering next year. Preliminary steps had been taken for setting up an international business school and a finishing school at Punnapra, he said.
