New Delhi: In a major relief to slum dwellers in the Capital, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi will construct 2,224 multi-storeyed dwelling units to rehabilitate thousands of families staying on encroached lands.

As part of Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission, a Central Government scheme, the MCD has decided to construct multi-storeyed dwelling units to rehabilitate 16,307 squatters belonging to economically weaker sections, Delhi Mayor Arti Mehra said.

The project, which will cost Rs 65.28 crore, is expected to be completed within two years, Ms. Mehra said.

Twelve hundred four-storeyed dwelling units will be constructed in Rohini while the rest will come up in Dwarka, she said, adding land for all these units have already been allotted to MCD.
