Lakshit moves up

Principal Correspondent

CHENNAI: On a day when majority of the matches were shifted to the synthetic courts of the SDAT-Nungambakkam Stadium, as the original venue — the Triangle Tennis Trust (Nandanam) clay courts, were not in ideal playing conditions it was tough going for the organisers in the India Cements-International Tennis Federation junior tournament here on Tuesday.

With the first day being washed out, the organisers were eager to complete as many matches as possible. India’s Lakshit Sood, top seed in the boys’ section, entered the third round — having received a bye in the first — with a comfortable 6-1, 6-4 victory over compatriot and qualifier Haddin Bawa. Due to inclement weather, the organisers haven’t ruled out using the Nungambakkam Stadium during the course of the championship.
