Put Bajrang Dal, VHP on terrorist watch list: Brinda

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) said on Tuesday that it had urged the Union Home Ministry to put the Bajrang Dal and the Vishwa Hindu Parishad on the watch list of organisations indulging in terrorist-like activities and take the “severest action.”

In a letter to Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil, CPI(M) MP Brinda Karat said the recent events in Orissa highlighted the use of violence by these two organisations against Christians.

She said it was reported that the son of a BJP leader and his accomplice associated with one of these organisations were arrested when the bomb they were making exploded in Bhubaneswar,.

Recently in Kanpur, two Bajrang Dal activists were killed while making bombs and several were injured. There were reports of attempts by these organisations to spread violence to States such as Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. In addition, their leaders were making the most rabidly communal speeches. Such actions seriously undermined national security, Ms. Karat said in the letter.

The CPI (M) Rajya Sabha MP reminded the Home Minster of her demand in the House last April for a CBI probe, following reports that the investigations by the Tamil Nadu police into the Tenkasi bomb blasts pointed to the involvement of known RSS men. It was in the context of similar incidents in Nanded and the parcel bombs sent to Muslim religious leaders in Maharashtra that she had asked for a CBI inquiry.
