One killed in clash

Correspondent

VIZIANAGARAM: One person was killed and several others were injured in a group clash at China Merangi, the native village of Minister for Forest S. Vijayaramaraju, in Jiyyammavalasa mandal, around 8.30 p.m. on Tuesday. The victim was identified as Vishnu Kantula Krishnamurty, 50, of the fishermen community.

According to unconfirmed reports, another person died on way to the Parvathipuram area hospital. According to the Jiyyammavalasa police, a dispute over transplantation of cashew crop led to the clash between the Relli community and Kapu and Fishermen communities of the same village.

The trouble began when some persons from the Relli community questioned the members of the other two communities about the damage caused to the cashew crop. This led to frayed tempers. Members of the Relli community were attacked and they retaliated resulting in a free-for-all.

The police rushed the injured persons to the Parvathipuram area hospital where their condition was said to be critical.
