Kottayam on top

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kottayam took the all-important first innings lead against Pathanamthitta in the two-day South Zone under-19 inter-district cricket tournament at the Agriculture College ground on Tuesday.

Pathanamthitta in reply to Kottayam’s first innings total of 323 for five was dismissed for 181 runs. Kottayam bowlers Ajumon Paul (three for 43), S. Sooraj (three for 48) and K.V. Vijilal (three for 51) shared the spoils. Kottayam was 58 for four in its second innings when play was called off owing to rain after tea. Kottayam took three points from the match.

At the Medical College ground, the Alappuzha-Kollam match ended in a draw. The teams got a point each.

The scores: Kottayam 323 for five in 70 overs and 58 for four in 15.5 overs (T.V. Sanu three for 35) drew with Pathanamthitta 181 in 52 overs (Philip K. Joseph 55, T.V. Sanu 41, Ajumon Paul three for 43, S. Sooraj three for 48, K.V. Vijilal three for 51).

Alappuzha 205 for six in 70 overs (Sandeep 58 n.o.) drew with Kollam 72 for two in 15.5. overs. — Principal Correspondent
