Venkatesh stays unbeaten

KOZHIKODE: M.R. Venkatesh, who won the S.K. Pottekkat FIDE-rating all-India chess tournament here on Monday, drew with Santu Mandal in the final round on Tuesday to finish unbeaten.

He scored 8.5 points from 10 rounds, one point ahead of P. Phoobalan, Debasis Mukherji, Praveen Kumar, Santu and O.T. Anil Kumar, who took the second to sixth places respectively.

The standings: 1. M.R. Venkatesh 8.5; 2-6. P. Phoobalan, Debasis Mukherji, Praveen Kumar, Santu Mandal and O.T. Anil Kumar 7.5; 7-10. E.P. Nirmal, Ram S. Krishnan, Sankar Majumdar and Bindu Saritha 7.
