Coimbatore: Favourite PSGR Krishnammal College strengthened its title chances with an easy 25-10, 25-2, 25-12 win over Bharathiar University in a semifinal league clash of the Bharathiar University inter-collegiate volleyball tournament at the Maharaja College for Women here on Tuesday. PKR Arts and Science College (Gobichettipalayam) stayed in contention as well defeating an off-colour Nirmala College 25-7, 25-10, 25-8. The results (Quarterfinals): Bharathiar University Arts bt Providence College (Coonoor) 25-11, 25-12, Nirmala College bt Tirupur Kumaran College 25-16, 25-17. PSGR Krishnammal bt Kongunadu 25-7, 25-6, PKR Arts (Gobi) bt Kongu CAS. Semifinal league: PSGR Krishnammal bt Bharathiar University 25-10, 25-2, 25-12; PKR bt Nirmala 25-7, 25-10, 25-8. PSGRK lifts titlePSGR Krishnammal, for the eighth consecutive year, emerged the champion of the Bharathiar University inter-collegiate football tournament for women at the Dr. NGP College of Arts and Science grounds here recently. On its way to title win, PSGRK defeated Government Arts College (4-0), PKR Arts and Science (1-0), Providence College (Coonoor) 3-0 and favourite PSG College of Arts and Science (Coimbatore) 4-0. Shyam Chander, a class eight student of SBOA MHSS, Coimbatore, has found a place in the under-14 probables list for the State basketball team for the SGFI Games in the selection trials held at Aruna HSS in Irayur Pennadam recently. Stanes HSS dominatesStanes Higher Secondary School, with 76 points, clinched the overall championship in the East Zone sports meet at the Government Polytechnic College grounds recently. Vignesh tallied 16 points for the individual championship in the senior class for boys, while the girls, thanks to K. Praitayini’s stellar performance, topped both the junior and senior divisions. To top it all, the Stanes boys wrested 13 out of the 15 titles that were at stake in the East Zone inter-school tournaments, while the girls emerged winners in basketball, volleyball, table tennis and badminton.
