An attempt to fool people, says Goel

Staff Reporter

Provisional certificates not needed

Congress move due to upcoming elections

NEW DELHI: Bharatiya Janata Party general secretary Vijay Goel, who had organised a rally at Ramlila Maidan here on the issue of unauthorised colonies recently, on Tuesday dismissed the announcement by the Congress that it would be issuing provisional regularisation certificates to residents of these colonies as “nothing but an attempt to fool the people”.

Noting that Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president J.P. Agarwal had on Monday announced that Congress president Sonia Gandhi would hand over these certificates to the office-bearers of residents’ welfare associations at Ramlila Maidan on September 17, the BJP leader described the exercise as nothing but a drama.

“During the Janata Party’s rule in 1977-78 when colonies were regularised, no certificate was needed. Why the drama of provisional certificate is being played out now?” he asked.

As per the conditions and procedure enunciated by the Union Government on March 24,

Mr. Goel said, provisional regularisation certificates can only be handed over when the unauthorised colonies fulfil all conditions of clause 4 of notification of March 24.

“When the Government has issued eligibility slips to 1,503 colonies, why is it being recorded in the provisional regularisation certificate that it would be accepted only after they have fulfilled conditions of notifications of March 24, 2008? It means the Government is befooling people by issuing provisional certificates without documentary check,” he stated.
