PMK MLA arrested

VILLUPURAM: The police on Tuesday arrested Mugaiyur constituency MLA V.A.T.Kaliyavarathan, belonging to the Pattali Makkal Katchi, on charges of trespassing into Tamil Nadu Electricity Board offices and abusing officials.

According to the police, irked by frequent power cuts, the MLA went to the Karanai Peruchanur power station at Kandachipuram on August 31 and demanded uninterrupted power supply. He reportedly used harsh words against officials. The police had booked a case. On September 6, the MLA barged into the EB offices at Arakandanallur and Mugaiyur and used abusive language. He was remanded to judicial custody for 15 days in the Cuddalore Central Prison.
