KOLKATA: Girish Koushik of St. Thomas School (Mysore) settled for a quick draw in the final round to ensure the crown in 20th The Telegraph Schools’ chess tournament, here on Monday. Already assured of the title because of his better progressive score, Girish drew against Hemant Sharma of Delhi to tally nine points and extend his prodigious run in National and international events.
Local boy Sayantan Das of Scottish Church Collegiate School got the second spot defeating Aditya Chakraborty in a brilliant game. Top seed Satyajit Kundu of Vivekananda Mission School (Kolkata) finished third after defeating local challenger Dhee Shankar of St. Mary’s Orphanage & Day School. South Point School (Kolkata), which aggregated 29 points, won the best School trophy. The top 10: 1. Girish Koushik (Kar) 9; 2. Sayantan Das (Ben) 8.5; 3. Satyajit Kundu (Ben) 8.5; 4.
