Uttam triumphs

Chennai: R. Uttam Sharma of the Institute for Financial Management and Research (IFMR), Nungambakkam, won the Pushpavalli Srinivasan Rolling Trophy at the State-level rapid chess tournament, conducted by the Thiruvallur District CA, on Sunday.

The results: Cash prize winners: G. Santhoshkumar (Velammal MHSS); R. Uttam Sharma (IFMR); N. Vijayakumar (ICICI); N. Surendran (Velammal); J. Saranya (Velammal); J. Arun (Velammal); K. Sirajudeen (OCF, Avadi).

Category prize winners: U-10: V. Harish, R. Adhithya; U-12: S.P. Rajesh, J. Hemanadhan; U-14: B. Sekar, C. Isidore Bosco; U-16: R. Sureshkumar, M. Vinoth; U-18: V. Vinoth, P. Anand Babu; U-20: C.K. Chopon Babu, P. Ramesh.

Daryl shines

Daryl’s all-round performance (94 not out & three for 10) enabled J.S. Rao beat Little Hearts ‘B’ by 116 runs in the under-12 section of the Little Hearts CA cricket tournament here.

The scores: U-14: AVM CCF 99 in 29.5 overs (Balaji 39 n.o.) lost to Kedar’s CA 103 for three in 15.2 overs (V. Adhithya 32 n.o.).

U-12: J.S. Rao CA 198 for two in 30 overs (Daryl 94 n.o., V. Vishal 52) bt LHCA ‘B’ 82 in 26.5 overs (Selvakumar 29 n.o., Kalyana Sundar three for 14, Daryl three for 10).

Mando India wins

Mando India emerged triumphant in cricket, while Schwing Stetter India clinched the volleyball title in the Rajalakshmi Engineering College (REC) Trophy inter-corporate tournament here recently.

Hanil Lear finished second in cricket and volleyball.

Debendranath Sarangi, Secretary to Transport Dept., Govt. of Tamil Nadu, and Loyola, General Manager of Hyundai gave away the prizes.

Chummar takes title

V. Chummar (+6 points) won the gold division event of the GOC Cup golf tournament at the Madras Gymkhana Club annexe, here on Sunday. H.K. Sinha (+3) finished second.

Other results: Silver division: 1. J.S. Malhan (+4), 2. Capt. Mehta (+2).

No play possible

Owing to heavy overnight showers, the opening day of the India Cements-International Tennis Federation junior tournament at TTT courts, YMCA College of Physical Education here on Monday, could not take place.

Ryoma Sloane of New Zealand, Japan’s Genki Hosoya and Dineshkantha Thangarajah of Sri Lanka comprise the foreigners in the boys’ main draw while in the girls’ category, Neesha Thirumalaichelva of Malaysia and Elli Share (Great Britain) form the foreign entries.

Loyola College scores

The Loyola College kabaddi team won the Madras University ‘A’ Zone inter-Collegiate Trophy, organised by the University of Madras, at the Guru Nanak College. Loyola defeated Presidency 53-39 in the final.
