THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A century by Siby Chacko (105) enabled Kottayam post a challenging score against Pathanamthitta in the two-day South Zone under-19 inter-district cricket tournament at the Agriculture College ground on Monday. Kottayam at the end of the mandatory 70 overs had scored 223 for five in its first innings. Siby was complimented well by Jaison George who scored a half-century (54). Pathanamthitta in reply was 37 for one at stumps. At the Medical College ground, rain played spoilsport and allowed only 26 overs to be completed on the first day of the match between Alappuzha and Kollam. Alappuzha had scored 82 for one in those 26 overs. The scores: Kottayam 223 for five in 70 overs (Siby Chacko 105, Jaison George 54, S. Govind three for 56) v Pathanamthitta 37 for one in 11 overs. Alappuzha 82 for one in 26 overs (Balu 42) v Kollam. Veterans for PortugalThe Kerala veterans’ team will take part in the international cricket festival to be held at Algarve, Portugal, from September 25 to 28. The team will also play goodwill matches in Amsterdam.
