Soya Sakthi BBC with a clean slate takes honours

Coimbatore: Soya Sakthi Ball Badminton Club (Coimbatore), with a clean league slate, emerged champion of the ninth Tamil Nadu State level ‘B’ grade ball badminton (fives) tournament at the Soundarabai A.P. Paulraj floodlit courts in Thiruvarur on Sunday.

The results: Semifinal league: Soya Sakthi BBC (Cbe) bt St. Joseph’s EC (Chen) 29-15, 29-26; bt SBCT (Kallupatti) 29-17, 29-27; bt Tagore EC (Chen) 29-27, 26-29, 29-18; SBCT bt Tagore EC 29-10, 29-6; bt St. Joseph’s EC 9-29, 29-25, 29-18; Tagore EC bt St. Joseph’s EC 27-29, 29-13, 29-19.

Final standings: 1. Soya Sakthi, 2. SBCT, 3. Tagore EC, 4. St. Joseph’s EC.

PSG corners glory

PSG College of Technology (Coimbatore) scored a hard-fought 1-0 win over Kongu Engineering College (Perundurai) in the final of the Anna University Zone-7 hockey tournament for men at the Coimbatore Institute of Technology grounds recently.

In the semifinals, PSG got past Park College of Engineering and Technology and Kongu defeated host Coimbatore Institute of Technology.

Double for Anand, Sailesh

G. Anand of Government College of Technology and G. Sailesh of Youngsters Table Tennis Academy clinched a double title each in the Lions Club of Texcity Rolling Trophy district-level table tennis tournament at the YTTA Hall on Sunday.

A.S. Ravichandran, District Governor, Lions Club of International District 324-B5 gave away the prizes.

The results (all finals): Singles: Men: John Vikrant (PSG Tech) bt G. Anand (GCT) 4-11, 7-11, 11-7, 11-9, 11-7.

Gobi Arts and Science College bounced back to oust Erode Christian College of Arts and Science 24-26, 25-23, 29-27 in an opening round clash of the Bharathiar University inter-collegiate volleyball tournament for women at the Maharaja College for Women courts on Monday.

The results: Tirupur Kumaran bt SNGC CAS 25-10, 25-13; Gobi ASC bt Erode Christian CAS 24-26, 25-23, 29-27; Providence College bt Sankara College 25-8, 25-11; Kongunadu CAS bt Maharaja CAS (Neelambur) 25-1, 25-9; PSGR Krishnammal bt Maharaja College for Women 25-7, 25-13.

Easy for Rainbow CC

Rainbow Cricket Club posted a six-wicket win over Jolly Rovers Cricket Club in the Canara Bank-CDCA first division league at the TNAU grounds on Sunday.

The scores: First division: RKS CAS 165 in 37.3 overs bt RKS Kalvi Nilayam 137 in 27.3 overs (Lakshmikanth 50); Jolly Rovers CC 104 in 40.3 overs (Ashok four for 21) lost to Rainbow CC 105 for four in 30.2 overs.

Second division: TTRC 193 in 47.3 overs (Senniappan 43) bt FRC 167 in 31.2 overs (Palanisamy 70).

Fourth division: Vivekananda Seva Trust 146 in 37.2 overs lost to CIT 147 for five in 38 overs (Vikram 80).

Anna University tournaments

PSG College of Technology will conduct the Anna University Zone-7 basketball tournament for men and ball badminton for women at its premises from September 11 to 13.
