With gratitude: Nilgiris Collector Anandrao V.Patil greeting a teacher with a rose at Breeks Memorial School in Udhagamandalam.

Udhagamandalam: Last week ended on a pleasant note for the teachers of the Breeks Memorial Anglo Indian Higher Secondary School and the Breeks All India Secondary School here.

With the Nilgiris Collector Anandrao V.Patil who is also the ex-officio president of the Managing Committee of the two schools choosing to celebrate Teachers Day with them, a memorable get-together was organised with the help of a past-student turned industrialist B.Rajesh Nahar.

Mr.Patil greeted the nearly 70 teachers with roses and cut a cake to mark the celebrations.

Mr.Patil during the course of an interaction sought their views on various matters pertaining to the institution which is one of the oldest in the Nilgiris and bears the name of James Wilkinson Breeks, the first Collector (then Commissioner) of the Nilgiris district.

He assured that their suggestions would be given due importance and their grievances looked into.

Mr.Patil exhorted them to give their best to the institution and the students.

He underscored their role in moulding the children during their most impressionable years.

He also added that efforts will be made to restore the glory of the institution which was steeped in history.

While acknowledging the unexpected gesture of their president, the teachers said that such a celebration was being organised for the first time and promised that they would reciprocate by taking the school to greater heights.

The principal of the Breeks Memorial School N.Raman presided. Among those present were members of the Board of Management and a couple of old students.
