BANGALORE: Residents of Jayanagar and other parts of the city on Sunday felicitated Jagadguru Sri Sri Swayamprakasha Sachchidananda Saraswathi Mahaswamiji, the seer of Sri Math, Hariharapura, Chikmagalur district.

The swamiji has been observing the Chaturmasya Vratha at the Pattabhirama Temple in Jayanagar IV T Block, which will last till September 14. The Guruvandana programme was organised under the leadership of Jayanagar MLA and Chaturmasya Committee chairman M.N. Vijaya Kumar.

Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa, who felicitated the swamiji, termed him the “Basavanna of the modern era”, for his endeavour to bring the oppressed classes to the mainstream.

Sri Sachchidananda Saraswathi Swamiji had blazed a trail in Hariharapura, a small town in Chikmagalur district, by visiting Dalit homes and receiving “Paada Puja”.
