LPG cylinders, rice seized

Tirupur: The Civil Supplies CID department seized 10 LPG cylinders and 1,190 kg of rice smuggled from the Public Distribution System, during raids conducted in the city on Saturday and Sunday.
Official sources said that the LPG cylinders were seized from various shops and commercial establishments situated at various parts of the city. The rice was seized by a special team led by Special Tahsildar (Civil Supplies) Mohan Kumar, from the house of Kariammal (29), son of Arumugam, situated at Tyagi Kumaran Colony near Chettipalayam.
The commodity was found hidden in sacks inside concealed racks. Official sources said the accused had been procuring rice from the PDS at Rs. 4 a kg for the preparation of value-added products. A case was registered against him under the Essential Commodities Act.
