VIJAYAWADA: Rejoicing the State government’s decision to accord a formal recognition to their practice, leaders of the Rural Medical Practitioners’ Welfare Association (RMPWA) of Andhra Pradesh on Sunday resolved to work with double enthusiasm to keep their profession out of reach of quacks. At a meeting organised in the city to chalk out their future course of action in the wake of the government’s decision to recognise their services by bringing the Federation of State Rural Medical Practitioners under the ambit of the Andhra Pradesh Para-Medical Board, the leaders called upon members to unite and work for development of the fraternity. The occasion was also utilised to discuss threadbare issues confronting the RMPs. ‘Stick to norms’Federation general secretary C. Shankar Mudiraj said that RMPs were extending yeomen service to people in remote villages. It was the bounden duty of the federation to reach out to several RMPs who had been serving the society for several decades but remained outside the realms of the association. Emphasising the need to stick to the federation norms, he said members should not resort to misuse of the provisions extended to them as part of the recognition. Federation president T.B. Raja Siddharth, who presided over the meeting, pointed out that a prolonged struggle preceded the government’s recognition. He said the members should realise the importance of the achievement and must help detect malpractices, if there were any. M.N. Raju of Sandhya Hi-Tech Vision Care Centre cited a series of instances where a responsible role played by RMPs prevented serious complications.
