Associate Consultant of Cognizant Technology Solutions Arjun Mudliar speaking at the workshop for MBA aspirants in Visakhapatnam on Sunday. VISAKHAPATNAM: With an aim to enlighten MBA aspirants about the various career prospects and newer avenues, clear all their doubts and offer them an insight into the corporate world, Pune-based Symbiosis Institute of Business Management (SIBM) organised a corporate mentoring and counselling initiative at Meghalaya Hotel on Sunday. The programme titled as ‘SIBM Live’ was organised to help aspiring students in their quest to do an MBA. The event was conducted by the admissions team of SIBM. The Hindu Education Plus was the print media partner for the event and pagalguy.com was the education media partner. The event gave a platform for the students to interact with eminent personalities from the corporate world. The expert speakers dwelt on the challenges and needs of the corporate world and how to prepare for the entrance tests. “A meticulous preparation, goal-setting, selecting the right institute and specialisation are some of the crucial factors,” Hindustan Coca Cola Beverages General Sales Manager Vijay Bhaskar told the students. SpecilizationStressing on the importance of an MBA degree from a premier institute, he said after the completion of the MBA programme, the students of top B-Schools were directly taken in as management trainees by the organisations and within one year they graduate to managerial positions whereas MBA students passing out of other institutes had to work in the sales for six years before they reach managerial posts. Speaking on various MBA specializations, he said that apart from Marketing, Finance, HR and Information Technology, there were newer fields like Retail Marketing, Sports Management and Fashion House Management that had tremendous potential. “After India’s great performance at the Olympics, many corporate companies are investing crores of rupees for sports training academies. Due to this, there is a growing need for Sports Management professionals,” he said. Tough competitionAssociate Consultant of Cognizant Technology Solutions Arjun Mudaliar spoke about the needs and expectations of the corporate world. “A good job is just the beginning of a long journey. Today, expectations are sky-high and the competition is very tough. Self starters, analytical skills for decision making, communication and presentation skills, new ideas and risk taking abilities are some of the essential qualities employers look for in the candidates,” he said. The market is changing rapidly and so are the consumer expectations. One must be daring, prepared to break away and make new rules and explore every opportunity in order to be a successful manager, he added.
