Baglihar project likely to be commissioned this month

Sujay Mehdudia

NEW DELHI: With the Pakistan government giving up its objections to the 450 MW Baglihar hydro-electric power project on the Chenab in the Kashmir Valley, the government has put into action the process to synchronise the first 150 MW unit of the project, which is likely to be commissioned by the end of this month.

Trial run

“The test trials of three turbines of the Baglihar project have commenced since last night. We are confident of putting the entire project into operational mode by the end of this month. The Pakistan authorities have given the project a clean chit and we will make things fully operational by November this year ensuring enhanced supply of power to the Kashmir Valley during the winter months,” Union Minister of State for Power Jairam Ramesh said here on Friday.
