Sewer system to be ready in three years

Special Correspondent

PERAMBALUR: An underground sewer system would be in place in Perambalur municipal limits within the next three years.

The sewer system would be established at a cost of Rs.23.38 crores.

The State government has sanctioned Rs.6.73 crores while the Perambalur Municipality would raise a loan of Rs.11.28 crores. The remaining Rs.5.37 crores would come by way of public contribution.

The Union Minister for Communication and Information Technology and Perambalur MP A.Raja inaugurated the project works here this week.

The project would put an end to the pollution caused by discharge of sewage into roadside in the town, where the per capita sewage discharge a day is estimated to be around 100 litres.

The town does not have a proper sewer system now.

The project would cater to an immediate population of 34,000 in the town; 42,000 in the interim stage by 2023 and 49,000 in the ultimate stage by 2038.

Underground sewer lines would be laid for a total distance of 87 km.

About 3,253 manholes would be built. The sewer system would have a capacity to provide 10,169 house connections.

The system would have a main pumping station and two sub pumping stations. A sewage treatment plant would be established on a three-acre site at Neduvasal with a capacity to treat about 42 lakh litres a day.
