Centre to allot Rs.150 cr. for Madurai hospital

MADURAI: The Central Government has planned to allot Rs.150 crore for the expansion project of Government Rajaji Hospital here to provide sophisticated medical facilities matching international standards, according to Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Anbumani Ramadoss.

Briefing presspersons here on Saturday, he said that funds would be allotted under the Prime Minister’s Swasth Swarasksha Yojana to set up a facility comprising super specialities with expert medical professionals and all modern equipment, including those related to cancer treatment.

Funds would be sanctioned once the State Government came up with a proposal. “Since the Government Rajaji Hospital is bursting at its seams a new location would be identified to set up the super speciality facility,” he added.

Dr. Anbumani said the GRH would be made a designated Regional Cancer Centre.

The Centre would clear these projects in two months, he said and added that the Government had also planned to allot Rs.10 crore to 12 crore to upgrade the GRH as Level II trauma care centre under the National Highway Trauma Care Project, which envisaged providing best trauma care system and stopping preventable deaths due to accidents on national highways covering the Golden Quadrilateral.
